Our accredited program efficiently reponds to the unique needs of Case Workers and their clients.

Program Description

Treatment Foster care is seen as a non-permanent placement.  Heritage Family Services will support in the transitioning of children into permanent placements.

The Heritage Families Wetaskiwin Program offers a highly-structured, twenty-four hour home-based care for children and youth.  Effective treatment plans are developed and implemented for each child and include their family of origin when that is beneficial and available.  In order for this to take place, Heritage Family Services carefully selects families who are capable and motivated to provide a stable, growth-producing family environment.  These Heritage Families will furnish emotional stability and appropriate care for the child to recoup prior developmental losses and progress normally.

Heritage Families Wetaskiwin may have natural children within their home; however, it is necessary for the families to provide a separate bedroom for the children in care.  There is a maximum limit of three children in care per home.  Also, should a child return to care in our program, we will make every effort to ensure they are given the opportunity to return to a home where they have previously been placed.

Heritage Family Services provides support to the Heritage Families Wetaskiwin through access to:

  • A program coordinator
  • A therapist
  • A community support worker  (one support worker for every 12 clients)
  • A professional parent development coordinator
  • A program Kokum (Cree grandmother for all  Aboriginal children)
