MAHIHKAN

Mahihkan is a three bed sibling home for three sisters, aging from 5 years old to 12 years old. This home has been designed to be these siblings forever home. Our professional team members are positive role models and advocates who are nurturing and respectful of youth, their individual developmental needs, their families and their culture. Our team members are also well versed in trauma informed practice so as to best care for and nurture youth who have experienced trauma in their lives. In particular, our Team strives to promote healthy attachment, physical and intellectual development, and social and emotional health through the development of positive and supportive relationships. Our Team works very closely with community resources such as occupational therapists, and psychological therapists through “To the Stars Occupational Therapy and Wellness Centre”, as well as the Sexual Assault Centre, and Red Deer Catholic School boards to ensure that we are all supporting our youth in the most consistent way possible.

The Mahihkan Program will be focused on providing intensive management plans to address the affect of trauma, grief and loss. As each of the clients have different complex needs, the team will design plans and establish community resources specific to each client.  The length of stay is dependent on the youth however; we strive to create a forever home for the youth, which gives the opportunity to transition into adulthood.
Additionally, the intensive case management plan will outline additional community resources for each client. The connection to aboriginal culture, community and family will be an important aspect in the healing for these clients.
